Cabin Life In Winter (Colorado Mountain Living), Episode 4

We finally had some decent snowfall! It’s been such a relief.

While we still need a lot more to make up for the drought conditions we’ve been having, I’m so grateful for what we’ve received this past week.

While I was editing last week’s vlog about how warm and dry it’s been, snow started falling from the sky. It was as if Mother Nature was responding directly to my video.

And shortly after that, temperatures not only dropped, but they dropped lower than I’ve ever seen them, in the 4 years I’ve been up here.

And then they dropped even lower than that.

During the coldest days, the pups and I kept busy with indoor activities by the fire, though when it “warmed up a bit” Frida was desperate to sit outside and stare into the forest—it’s her favorite thing to do.

When it’s super cold out, I burn through a lot of firewood to keep my house warm, and because of that, I needed to refill my indoor stash mid-week.

Unfortunately, I don’t have dry storage outside, but I do have space inside my mudroom, where I keep dry backup wood.

Thankfully I have baseboard heaters, so I’m not solely heating with the wood stove, but I only keep them set at 55 degrees, because electricity can get expensive in the winter.

And although I’ve become comfortable living in a 55 degree house, it’s nice to feel warmer than that.

A super cool thing that happened this week is this (see photo below)—I was visited by an osprey! I’d never seen one before, until this moment. I even captured it taking a poo, in my video (hahaha).

Overall, it was a really lovely and relieving week.
