On Wisdom
I had some thoughts come up in my meditation this morning — you know, that activity where you're not supposed to be thinking, HA!
But the thoughts were more than the typical anxious chatter, or the song that won't leave my head, or the annoying mental replay of my life's worst moments:
"Remember when you did this, or what about THIS! How embarrassing. Feel the shame! Feel it now!"
The thoughts that appeared came from a much deeper place within me. A place that lives beyond all of that.
A place of deep knowing.
And the thoughts were precisely about that place of profound understanding.
We all have wisdom within us. It's simply the deep internal and peaceful knowing that's left when you weed out all of the yucky feelings attached to it.
I bet you have some pretty deep wisdom within you from all of your life experience. But maybe like the majority of us, you simply don't know it.
We're not encouraged to go deep into our internal experiences. Most people think that's just a bunch of hippie B.S., but after going pretty far down the hippie B.S. road, I now have a deep inner knowing that being connected to our internal experience — our emotions, thoughts, subconscious beliefs, and most importantly our wisdom — is a very natural part of being a human that has been shunned and discarded.
The wisdom within us is very often being held hostage by self-doubt, shame and fear, so it's often not easy to find, until we go internally and rescue it from all of those uncomfortable feelings.
All this to say, there's a lot of wisdom in this world that's not being expressed.
It's a very noisy world, full of a lot of information and mindless chatter, but not a whole lot of depth. And that's kind of sad, because I know that the human species is capable of so much more.
What wisdom have you gained throughout your lived experience? I'm sure you have some pretty profound things to share. Even if it's just one on one with someone you love.
Hi, I’m Kristen!
I envision a world where you and I rediscover what it is to be human, through connection with ourselves, each other and the natural world around us.
