This past summer, I experimented with growing my own sweet potatoes for the first time.

The whole entire process was so much fun for me to experience. I got a lot of joy out of watching a couple of old sweet potatoes grow roots and shoots, then watching those shoots turn into bushy vines, and then harvesting tubers at the end of the growing season.

There’s something so special about growing your own food, knowing its whole journey from seed, or slip, to your plate. It’s an experience that’s so rare nowadays, in a world where food is mostly shipped from all over the world and purchased in grocery stores.

Growing my own sweet potatoes was super easy and I plan on doing it annually, after this experience. I do want to start a little sooner though and maybe harvest them a little later, so the tubers have more time to grow, but overall, I’m happy with the 10 pounds that I ended up with.

Hi, I’m Kristen!

I envision a world where you and I rediscover what it is to be human, through connection with ourselves, each other and the natural world around us.
